After completing a trouble free Roar Before the 24 test Action Express Racing have finalised the driving squads tasked with chasing a second overall victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona for the team.
Joao Barbosa and Mike Rockenfeller, two of the men who gave the team Rolex success on their Daytona debut in 2010, will drive the #9 Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype, combining with Burt Frisselle.
Barbosa was also twice a victor in the Rolex Series last season, taking the checkered flag in Detroit and on the series’ second visit of the year to Watkins Glen.
Younger Frisselle brother Brian is part of the team in the sister #5, driving alongside a trio of Brazilians, with 2004 Rolex 24 winner Christian Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet Jr and GP2 driver – and 2012 Rolex 24 podium visitor – Felipe Nasr completing the team.
“We are really happy with this line up,” said Elton Sawyer, director of race team operations for the outfit. “Both of our Corvette DPs have drivers that not only bring a lot of speed, but also a really wide range of experience both in and out of Daytona Prototypes. The Roar test was really productive for us, and it was great for the drivers to get comfortable with the cars, and with each other. This is going to be the most competitive Rolex 24 yet, and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
The first track running of the 51st Rolex 24 at Daytona is on Thursday January 24, with the race on January 26-27.
