Herbert Loses KX Akademy Support

1 Mins read

Reigning Mazda MX5 MK3 Cup champion Luke Herbert has lost his place in the KX Akademy scheme for 2013 due to funding issues.

Herbert was planning to graduate into the Renault Clio Cup UK this season with Scuderia Vittoria, but has failed to find the remainder of the budget required to take up his place in the team, and in the KX Akademy.

“I took four or five weeks off work [to find sponsor], but had no luck,” Herbert told Autosport. “Coming from club to national racing is such a huge jump.”

Herbert is now planning a part-season this year in a self-run car, before hoping to mount a full challenge when the new generation Clio arrives in the UK in 2014.

“I’m going to try and get a car and run myself,” he added. “It was always the plan if KX didn’t come off.”
