KC Motorgroup Ltd (KCMG) will make history at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race as it becomes the first Chinese team to compete in the world’s greatest endurance race.
Of the 56 invitations the ACO has granted KCMG will take to the grid in a recently acquired LMP2 Morgan chassis from OAK Racing’s constructor department Onroak Automotive.
KCMG Managing Director Paul Ip talked about the importance of Le Mans and how he is looking forward to taking the team to France in June. “KCMG has entered many championships in Asia, but has not yet had the opportunity to participate in any Le Mans championships.
“Le Mans has a famous name in the motor racing world, and KCMG has always been very keen and interested in entering their events. My thanks go to ACO for giving us a great opportunity to enter the prestigious Le Mans 24 hours.”
Ip also revealed his long-term goal of taking the team in to the World Endurance Championship in 2014.
Alexandre Imperatori has been named as one driver, with the Swiss driver returning to the team that he competed with in the All-Japan Formula Three Championship.
KCMG will face tough competition this year with a 22-car strong LMP2 field takes to Circuit de la Sarthe in June featuring a double works effort from Lotus.
