Fielding Aiming For Wins In Debut F4 Campaign

2 Mins read

Sennan Fielding has told TheCheckeredFlag.co.uk he is targeting race wins in the 2013 BRDC Formula 4 Championship, the 17 year old’s debut season in single-seater racing.

Fielding had a busy winter as he prepared for the transition into open wheel racing, testing a Formula Ford at the series’ Sampler Day back in December, as well as heading to America for a run in a USF2000 car, before eventually settling for a move into the new-for-2013 Formula 4 championship,

“Formula 4 has a lot of very good backing behind it, with the BRDC, and Jonathan Palmer always does a good job with his championships. I think it can offer a lot to younger drivers and help us with our dreams of becoming Formula 1 world champion,” Fielding told us at the recent Ginetta Media Day.

Fielding will run with Irish outfit Douglas Motorsport, a team he came up against in the Ginetta Junior Championship last season, Douglas having run one of his championship rivals Niall Murray.

“We spoke to Wayne [Douglas] quite a lot at the end of last year and we had a test with him over in Ireland. We were speaking to a few others teams as well, but Wayne knows what he’s talking about, as does the team, we’ve got a good connection and the same desire to win, so together I think we’ll be able to provide the goods.”

With the team still awaiting delivery of their brand-new MSV F4-013 car, Fielding’s testing opportunities so far have come in Douglas’ Formula Renault chassis, giving him the chance to get acquainted with single-seaters.

“We had a big break over Christmas so I was a bit rusty when I got back in the car, but I’ve been getting a lot more confident, getting used to the single-seater aero and stuff, and recently we’ve been feeling really quick. We feel good.”

After tasting regular race-winning success in Ginetta Juniors last season, Fielding has his eyes firmly set on doing the same this season, even though it’s his debut season in single-seaters.

“I think it will be close, and I feel pretty confident. I wouldn’t be doing it if I was going to come mid-pack, I want to win and my aim is to do that.”

The BRDC Formula 4 Championship kicks off at Silverstone on April 27/28.
