Garnsworthy brings Caddy Racer back to VW Cup grid

The upcoming APR Volkswagen Racing Cup season will see the return of a fan favourite as Dave Garnsworthy will campaign the popular Caddy van racer in 2013.

The fan-friendly machine will once again be displaying its three-wheeled cornering antics after a year’s sabbatical from the series last season, having previously run with top 10 success in the hands of Peter Wyhinny and Simon Elliott since its debut in 2002.

Vanworx boss Garnsworthy will campaign the all-new 2-litre Golf GTI-engined Caddy racer in the coming season as a racing novice, and aims on enjoying his learning experience.

“I have always been interested in motorsport and was looking for a way to start competing; I was aware of the Caddy and Tweeted [previous driver] Simon Elliott asking if it was for sale – it was, we thrashed out a price, and here we are…

“We are complete newbies to racing,” he added. “And the aim is to learn and have fun, take it a race at a time and make it to the finish. We’ll take it seriously and hopefully by the end of the year we might make a top 10 finish.”
