Luke Davenport to continue in Ginetta GT5 Challenge for 2013

Luke Davenport is set to return to the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge in 2013, driving a G40 for Reflex Racing.

The 19-year-old from Cambridge enjoyed a tough but successful 2012 season with four podiums, and will continue in the Ginetta Challenge after electing not to go ahead with original plans to race in the BTCC-supporting GT Supercup.

Davenport will continue to run with Reflex Racing for the 2013 season, receiving backing from new sponsors, Henderson Insurance Brokers, and said: “I am really excited to have Henderson’s backing me alongside Frimstone Ltd this year. Henderson’s have an illustrious history in sports sponsorship having previously aided James Toseland on his ascent to World Superbikes from 2004 to 2011.

“I will continue to run with Derek Holden’s Reflex Racing. They are a fantastic team and have accelerated my learning process so I can compete at a level with drivers more experienced than myself. Our preparations for the coming season have shown decent promise, we will continue to keep our heads down and hopefully turn up to Oulton Park for round one with some real momentum.”

Davenport has visions of a successful future in GT and sportscar racing, and says that the GT5 Challenge is a strong environment to gain experience, the series supporting the popular Avon Tyres British GT championship in 2013.

“The Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge series has really grown in strength over the last three years”, he added. “I learnt masses in my first season and I believe it has developed my driving quickly and cost effectively. It’s also great to be supporting British GT again as it’s a genuine opportunity to perform in front of the major teams and I think that it will be one of the pinnacle GT championships this year.
