Peter Wyhinny will enter the APR Volkswagen Racing Cup for a record 12th consecutive season, once again racing a SEAT Leon Cupra.

Wyhinny – now managing director of SEAT Italy – will race the 2-litre turbocharged SEAT Leon Cupra in which he has competed since 2010, the car being prepared by reigning champions KPM.

The 56-year-old, who once raced in the original Caddy van in the series, now believes that the Leon stands a good chance of fighting the front-running machinery on the grid, thanks to some mechanical developments to improve the car’s power and overall performance.

“Although I am now working in Italy I am keen to carry on racing in the UK, and I am looking forward to another season in the Leon,” said the experienced Wyhinny. “We have made a few tweaks to the SEAT to improve straightline speed and hopefully we will be able to take the fight to all the new Sciroccos on the grid.”

“I have all the dates in my diary and will be able to fit them in, but testing may be a problem – fortunately my son, Paul, can deputise as he knows how I like the car set up.”

Wyhinny’s entry now bumps the impressive grid up to around 25-plus cars expected for the opening rounds of the 2013 APR Volkswagen Racing Cup at Oulton Park on Easter Monday (1 April).
