Reigning Champion Walker To Race Number One Plate At Oulton Opener

1 Mins read

Reigning APR Volkswagen Racing Cup champion James Walker’s 2013 sabbatical appears short lived as he will enter a Golf GTI for the opening round of the series at Oulton Park wearing the number one plate.

The 2012 champion announced that he would be taking a year out of full-time racing for the coming season to focus on personal commitments, but will now line up on the grid at the Cheshire venue on Easter Monday (April 1) racing a GTI under the banner of Walker family team CMW Racing.

Although the outing will remain a one-off, Walker however still intends to run a part-time 2013 programme around his personal commitments, sharing the family golf with his father, Richard.

“I knew that if I was going to get a race that I’d have to do all the preliminary work, like getting the entry in, the livery sorted and the power test done,” he said.

“I’m still looking at it as a bit of fun rather than a serious title defence, but then if I go well at Oulton, who knows?”

Walker’s Golf will bear the number one plate at Oulton Park, after claiming last year’s VW Cup crown thanks to two wins and 11 podiums.
