Former Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge champion Mark Davies will make a one-off appearance in this weekend’s fourth round of the 2013 season at Snetterton, racing with his ex-championship-winning squad, Optimum Motorsport.

Davies currently races in the BTCC-supporting Ginetta GT Supercup series for Total Control Racing, now lying fifth in the championship having stepped up to the G55 class after claiming the secondary G50 class title last season.

The triple Ginetta champion will now return to the British GT-supporting series with Wakefield-based Optimum Motorsport for this weekend after a spare G40 seat became available for the trio of Snetterton encounters, reuniting Davies with the squad he claimed the G20 class title with in 2009, as well as the overall championship crown with two years later in 2011.

On his one-off return, Davies said: “I am really looking forward to returning to the GT paddock this weekend. Optimum Motorsport had a spare car and called to offer me the drive, which, with the G40R being great cars to drive, I just couldn’t refuse. Thank you to Invisible Glass and Poorboys World.co.uk for the opportunity.”

Team Principal Shaun Goff said; “When we found out we had a drive available, Mark was our first choice and it’s going to be great to have him return to the team for this weekend. He last raced with us in 2011 when he completely dominated the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and went on to win the title outright. With a wealth of experience under his belt, he’s going to put on a fine show this weekend.”

Davies will be joining Optimum Motorsport’s regular drivers Tor McIlroy, Thiago Calvet and Andy Marshall at Snetterton this weekend, as well as their newest addition to the series, Will Moore.
