Renault UK Clio Cup aspirant Tom Skinner has launched a new sponsorship scheme that he hopes will aid his chances of reaching the grid in 2014.
The scheme sees Skinner, who has recently linked up with M&D Motorsport Connections, offering companies the chance to put a 20cm x 10cm sticker of their logo on his car for £99.
The Clio Cup is Skinner’s first target, however with the series introducing new fourth-generation, turbo-charged cars next season, the 17 year old admits raising the budget for the series may be extremely difficult.
Skinner is therefore also weighing up the option of entering the Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge as a privateer in the G20 class. Skinner is currently competing in the Ginetta Want2Race scholarship, reaching the second round which takes place in September.
For the Ginetta Challenge, Skinner is looking to offer businesses the opportunity to sponsor his whole car for around £600 per round.
“The Clio Cup is our first choice, but we think the chances are pretty slim with the new cars coming in making the prices sky high,” Skinner told The Checkered Flag. “Our second choice is to enter the Ginetta Challenge, as it’s cheaper and we can run as a privateer. We feel either championship would be great options for sponsors with great television coverage on ITV4 and Motors TV respectively.”
