Max Cornelius has joined the BRDC Formula 4 Championship with Chris Dittmann Racing for the final rounds of the season at Donington Park.
Cornelius is a former runner-up in the Autosport Young Guns category in 2010, taking seven wins. That success landed him test drives with the Carlin and West Tec Formula 3 teams, however the 19 year old hasn’t raced since.
The former prolific karter got his first taste of F4 machinery in a test with the team at Snetterton earlier this month, and has signed up for the final round with a view to competing in the series next year.
“I’m really looking forward to racing in F4 at Donington Park,” said Cornelius. “I tested with the car and the team at Snetterton two weeks ago and I made really quick progress, built up my lap times and got to know the car and the team really well. I’m really impressed with the car and with a bit more testing under my belt leading up to the event, I’m feeling really confident of my chances.”
The move marks CDR’s return to the F4 grid, the Gloucestershire-based outfit having missed the last two weekends, last racing at Brands Hatch GP in July.
“It’s fantastic news to confirm Max in the car for Donington,” added team principal Chris Dittmann. “We’ve been speaking with him for a while and we were able to test with him at Snetterton recently. It was his first time in a car for three years, but he got up to pace really quickly and I think it’s going to be a package with a lot of potential for Donington Park. We can’t wait to get out there!”
