Haga Joins Paul Bird Motorsport For BSB Run-In

Noriyuki Haga will return to the British Superbike Championship for the final three weekends of the season after signing to ride for Paul Bird Motorsport. The former World Superbike star will take part in a test at Snetterton this week before contesting the rounds at Assen, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

Haga has a year’s experience in the British Superbike Championship after riding for the Swan Yamaha team last season although he didn’t enjoy the most successful time, failing to win all year. 2013 though has produced a podium finish at the Suzuka 8 Hour, indicating that he may be returning to form again.

The Japanese rider will partner Shane Byrne as the Londoner contests the title with five other riders in the Showdown and team owner Paul Bird is hopeful Haga can assist Byrne in his pursuit of the championship.

“I have always admired Nori throughout his career and it’s fair to say he’s one of my heroes so I’m delighted to have the chance to work with him. He’s proven many times that he’s a great rider and showed at the tracks he knew last year that he could still be very competitive. He was on pole position at Assen last year and rode a couple of brilliant races so despite not doing a lot of racing this year, he’ll be very strong. He loves all three Showdown tracks and if he can also help Shakey’s bid for the title, all well and good.”
