Herbert To Make Clio Cup Debut At Rockingham

1 Mins read

Michelin Clio Cup Series front-runner Luke Herbert will make his Renault UK Clio Cup debut next weekend at Rockingham.

Herbert has dominated the new-for-2013 club-level series with five race victories in the opening six races in his family-run Clio, including a pair of wins at Rockingham last month.

The reigning Ma5da MX5 Cup champion had targeted entry into the Clio Cup at the start of the season and was initially chosen for the KX Akademy, however a shortfall of budget meant he lost that backing and moved into the Clio Cup Series.

The 23 year old hopes to impress in Northamptonshire as he targets a full-time entry into the championship next season.

“We have learned the car in the Michelin Clio Cup Series and have won five of the six races, so we have proven we have the team to run ourselves,” Herbert told thecheckeredflag.co.uk. “The biggest issue for us will be the transfer from the Michelin tyres to the Dunlop tyres, and the only experience I will get of them prior to the meeting is in the two forty minute sessions on the Friday.

“Since winning the Mazda Cup in 2012 I have been desperate to get onto the touring car package, and this is our chance. It’s tough to know what to expect from the weekend. I would be pleased with a top ten finish, but I think it will be difficult and a huge learning curve for me. I just can’t wait to get out there.”
