Kellett Topples Woodhead To Take Maiden Ginetta Win

1 Mins read

James Kellett overcame runaway championship leader Harry Woodhead to take his first ever victory in the Ginetta Junior Championship in Round 15 at Rockingham.

The rookie started the ten lap encounter from pole position, however a sluggish getaway saw him drop to fourth off the line. A great start for Will Palmer saw him take the lead heading around the banking, but he came under pressure from Keith Donegan who stormed all the way around the outside.

As Donegan slotted into the train he tagged the back of Palmer though, with the contact sending them both wide. Ollie Chadwick benefitted to briefly grab the lead, however Woodhead seized the advantage at Yentwood.

Chadwick soon found himself under pressure from Kellett and a fantastic move at Deene on lap four saw him cut back superbly to take the position. One lap later and the lead was his, Kellett sliding past his HHC Motorsport team-mate Woodhead at Tarzan.

Behind, Chadwick was enjoying a great scrap with Palmer and after a failed attempt on lap six, Palmer got ahead at Deene on lap seven. Chadwick fought back at Gracelands later in the lap though and the JHR Developments driver made the move stick into Tarzan.

As Kellett led home Woodhead to the flag for a HHC one-two, the battle for third went down to the final lap. Chadwick ran wide through Pif Paf, bunching himself and Palmer into a scrap with Jack Mitchell and Donegan through the final half a lap.

Remarkably, no positions were to change, with Chadwick holding on for his sixth podium of the season. Palmer took fourth ahead of Mitchell and Donegan, the latter having battled through after dropping to 13th at the end of the opening lap.

Jamie Chadwick secured seventh at the flag, the JHR ace having run as high as fifth at one stage, with fellow rookies Josh White, Ryan Hadfield and Ben Pearson completing the top ten. James Webb was the first of the series newcomers in eleventh, with fellow debutants Jonathan Hadfield and William Taylforth twelfth and fourteenth respectively at the flag.
