Reigning Protyre Formula Renault champion Chris Middlehurst will switch across to the BRDC Formula 4 Championship with MGR Motorsport for 2014.
Middlehurst had a sensational 2013 campaign, with six wins in the first eight races setting him on his way to a comfortable Formula Renault title success, which earnt him a position in the final six for the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
The 2011 Formula Ford 1600 National champion had originally targeted a Formula Renault 2.0 NEC campaign for 2014, but after losing out on the BRDC Award and its £100,000 prize fund, his focuses turned to staying in UK racing for the upcoming campaign.
In a similar set-up to his Formula Renault title-winning run, Middlehurst and his father will run his car, with support from the MGR team.
“F4 is backed by the BRDC which is a big thing,” said Middlehurst. “I want to make a career out of this and I think it’s the highest level single seater championship in the UK. My aim is to go out there and win the championship.”
