Ginetta GT5 Challenge

Century Motorsport Expand Into GT5 Challenge

Century Motorsport have announced a two-car entry into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge this season, running G40’s for Japanese driver Osamu Kawashima and Danish racer Frederik Mortensen.

The Warwickshre-based outfit will run their Challenge team alongside an expanded British GT4 line-up, as well as their efforts in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup, VLN Series and BARC Saxmax.

Kawashima made his UK racing debut in the final round of the 2013 Ginetta Supercup at Brands Hatch with Century. After a strong learning weekend, he returns hoping to gain more experience ahead of a full-time move into the Supercup in 2015.

Mortensen meanwhile will be competing in the UK for first time, joining the series with experience competing in the Sweden-based JTCC Clio Cup last season. With a test in a G40 at Croft back in the Autumn under his belt, the Dane hopes to be challenging for podiums and race wins by the end of the campaign.

“Over the last few seasons we’ve been trying to further develop our team in the various GT championships in the UK along with the VLN series,” said team principal Nathan Freke.

“I’ve always wanted to build up a team with a staircase of progression to race in British GT3, so putting a two car team in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge is a perfect place for us to encourage newcomers to GT racing.

“We’re delighted that Osamu has come back with us this season after his debut in Brands Hatch last year in the Ginetta GT Supercup. This year will be a perfect year for him to learn how to race in a busy field of cars on the UK’s best circuits in preparation for a move to the GT Supercup in 2015. Frederik is also very keen to learn and working in a two car team will be a new advantage for him to further himself as a driver.”
