Luthi Overhauls Rabat On Day Two At Jerez

2 Mins read

Thomas Luthi got the better of Esteve Rabat on day two of the pre-season Moto2 test at Jerez as the pair continued their private battle at the top of the timesheets. The Swiss rider lowered the benchmark time by a quarter of a second from yesterday to edge out Rabat with Mika Kallio close behind on the second Marc VDS Kalex.

Luthi didn’t enjoy a perfect day by any means with the Interwetten rider having a small accident on his Suter in the afternoon. By that point, he had already set the fastest lap time of the day on a 1:42.515 while Rabat had to settle for second despite topping the second session. Kallio matched his teammate in the mid-1:42s while Takaaki Nakagami came in a quarter of a second slower in fourth.

Alex de Angelis was fifth fastest ahead of World Supersport champion Sam Lowes who continued his impressive week aboard the Speed Up. Julian Simon was a strong seventh with Sandro Cortese on his tail in eighth while Johann Zarco put the leading Caterham Suter in the top ten with the ninth fastest time. His teammate Josh Herrin was 22nd although he blotted his copybook with a crash, Spanish rider Roman Ramos doing likewise.
