Rabat Takes Over On Day Two At Valencia

2 Mins read

Esteve Rabat moved to the top of the timesheets on day two of the pre-season Moto2 test at Valencia, replacing teammate Mika Kallio as the man to beat. The Marc VDS rider set a blistering lap in the final session of the day, just two tenths shy of last year’s pole position, to lead Thomas Luthi and Tuesday pacesetter Kallio.

Rabat appeared much more comfortable as the temperatures picked up, topping two of the three sessions, but Luthi also looked strong as he experimented with a new frame, chassis and suspension on his Suter. The Swiss rider was three tenths behind Rabat but still quick enough to split the Marc VDS duo. The Aspar Suters of Jordi Torres and Nicolas Terol were close behind in fourth and fifth while Moto3 champion Maverick Vinales’ impressive start continued in sixth, the teenager trying out a raft of new parts on his Kalex

Julian Simon set an identical time to his compatriot in seventh, edging out Takaaki Nakagami and Alex de Angelis, and the top ten was completed by Luis Salom on the second Pons Kalex. Sandro Cortese bounced back from a crash on day one to finish twelfth fastest but British duo Sam Lowes and Gino Rea had a little less to cheer after ending day two seventeenth and 22nd respectively.
