BTCC Outfit AMD Enter Ginettas With Hawkey

1 Mins read

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship outfit AMD Tuning will enter the Ginetta Junior Championship for the first time this season with Esmee Hawkey.

The 16 year old will join the grid for the final six rounds, from Rockingham in September onwards. Prior to that, she will continue to compete in the Easykart Championship, culminating in the World Finals In Italy.

The Kent-based racer got her first taste of Ginetta action in October’s Ginetta Junior Scholarship, her performance in reaching the final stages, coupled with her 2013 karting resuts, impressing AMD team boss Shaun Hollamby.

“We have shown our support for young drivers in the past and in Esmee, we see someone who has the potential to go a long way,” said Hollamby.

“Her performance in the Ginetta Junior Scholarship was hugely impressive given her lack of experience, and with the programme we have put together for this season, she’ll be able to build her knowledge base ready for the time when she gets behind the wheel of the car in competition for the first time.”

While Hawkey will focus on her Easykart commitments over the next few months, she will be testing at all of this year’s TOCA rounds in order to familiarise herself with the car and circuits ahead of a full campaign in 2015.

Hawkey is the second female racer to confirm her entry into Ginetta Juniors this year, joining 2013 Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner Jamie Chadwick.
