Two-time winner in 2013 Jolyon Palmer has joined the French DAMS team for the 2014 GP2 series season. The British driver has signed alongside Stephane Richelmi, who remains at the team for a second year.
Palmer won the feature race at both the Hungarian and Singapore events with the Carlin team in 2013, and finished the championship strongly with a second place finish in Abu Dhabi. He finished seventh in the standings. 2014 will be the Britain’s fourth season in the series, having made his debut for Arden International in 2011.
“I only have one objective for next year, which is to win the GP2 title, and I believe joining DAMS will give me the best opportunity to achieve that,” said Palmer to the official DAMS website.
“They have a great track record of leading drivers to F1 and I will be working extremely hard to follow Romain Grosjean and Davide Valsecchi and become DAMS’ third GP2 champion in four years, and maximise my chances of securing an F1 drive for 2015.”
Monegasque driver Richelmi returns for his third full season in GP2 after finishing eighth in the standings in 2013, with a season best finish of second at the British event. He was one of the more consistent performers throughout the second half of last year, and will want to build on that consistency to get regular podiums and a breakthrough victory.
“I’m really delighted to be continuing with DAMS in 2014,” said Richelmi. “I’d like to thank Jean-Paul Driot and the whole team for their trust in me.
“My aim will be to build on my experience this year and reach a new level. I feel very good in the DAMS family and all the conditions are in place for us to fight for the podium and victory next year.”
