Experienced Ginetta racer Rob Gaffney has linked up with Amigo Motorsport for the 2014 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
Gaffney join’s the newly formed Amigo Motorsport outfit after a successful three year stint in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup, including being crowned G50 class vice-champion in 2012. A brief five race stint at the end of last season produced one class win.
Gaffney said that despite joining a brand-new team, the combination aim to be challenging for the title from the get-go. “We gave a lot of consideration to our options for this year, and the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge best suits both the team and my own goals to help us challenge for the championship from the first round.
“I am really excited to get back behind the wheel for the full season after only competing in the last two rounds of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup in 2013.”
Amigo’s efforts this year will be overseen by experienced race engineer Fred Marsh, of whom Gaffney has worked with prior to 2014. “I’ve worked with Rob since he first got into a Ginetta aged 14 and watched him evolve into a really exciting and entertaining driver”, Marsh said.
“He is naturally quick and we think this Series will be the right step forward to help further our ambitions and achieve our goals.”
Aswell as Gaffney, Marsh is also looking to add another car to Amigo’s armoury for a second driver, later in the season.
Rob will make his début in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge at Oulton Park, on 19/20 April.
