American racer Alexander Rossi has re-signed for the EQ8 Caterham Racing GP2 team for 2014 and will be joined at the team by top Indonesian driver Rio Haryanto.
Rossi joined the team from round three of the 2013 season replacing Chinese driver Ma Qing Hua, and finished ninth in the championship. He immediately finished on the podium in Bahrain, and finished the year by winning the Abu Dhabi feature race at the end of the season. The 22-year-old American will be hoping to challenge for more wins and even the championship this year.
“My 2013 programme had some changes which meant I missed the pre-season tests and a couple of the early GP2 races, however, throughout the season the team and I made some big progress and by Abu Dhabi we were definitely one of the cars to beat,” said Rossi to Autosport.
“This continued in the post-season tests and I’m quite confident about the pace in 2014.”
Haryanto will be competing in his third season of GP2, having raced previously for Carlin and Addax. He took his maiden podium finish at Silverstone last year.
“After such a successful post season test with the team in Abu Dhabi and the possible Formula 1 opportunities, this was the obvious choice for me,” said Haryanto.
“The team atmosphere immediately filled me with confidence and I am sure that this new chapter, with a new team is going to bring success.”
