Sedgwick Feeling Confident After ‘Successful’ Tests

1 Mins read

2014 Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner Alex Sedgwick has set himself the target of being one of the top rookies in the championship this season following a positive winter of testing.

The 15 year old emerged victorious from a group of thirty budding young racers during Ginetta’s annual Scholarship competition last October, earning himself a fully-funded season in the BTCC-supporting championship.

Since then, Sedgwick has been busy preparing for the upcoming season, and has so far completed four “successful” tests with category front-runners JHR Developments. After showing some promising pace, the Warwickshire-based racer has strong aims for the upcoming campaign.

“Winning the scholarship is very big for me. I’ve always been looking to progress from karts to car racing, but I didn’t really have the opportunity to before winning the scholarship. It’s let me step up to the next level of my career,” Sedgwick told TCF.

“At the start of the season I’m just focusing on getting used to the car and the racing, but as it goes on I want to be in the top ten, maybe the top five, and fighting for the Rookie Cup. I’ve put a bit of pressure on myself to be one of the top rookies.”

Sedgwick has been testing alongside his new JHR team-mates Jack Mitchell and Jamie Chadwick through the winter, with the opportunity to compare to himself to two of the front-running rookies from 2013 naturally proving beneficial for the rookie.

“I’ve been getting help from Jamie [Chadwick] with things like the data and some on-track stuff, but mainly you’ve just got to work it out yourself and see where you can go quicker,” he added.

“It’s been an advantage during the tests though, being able to compare myself to her and Jack [Mitchell], to see where they’re gaining on me and maybe where I’m gaining on them. It’s helped me get up to speed quicker than had I been doing it all on my own.”

Sedgwick’s Ginetta G40J has title sponsorship from Carlube this season following a new partnership recently announced between Ginetta and the oil company.

The 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship kicks off on March 29/30 at Brands Hatch in Kent.
