Mike Bushell ended his Donington Park weekend on a low note after his second Renault UK Clio Cup race of the weekend lasted a matter of metres following a dramatic crash with Jordan Stilp.
Bushell lined up on the front row alongside poleman Stilp for the sixteen lap encounter, and looked set to reach Redgate first after a great start off the line.
Slight contact between the two though as they ran side-by-side pitched Bushell off into the concrete wall at the pitlane exit.
The hit caused extensive damage to the passenger side of his fourth-generation Clio – though Bushell has confirmed the damage won’t be enough to sideline him for Thruxton in two weeks time.
It was a frustrating end to the weekend for the Team Pyro man, who was looking to add a second podium finish of the weekend to his second place in Round Three.
“I had a good start, and a bad first straight,” Bushell explained to TCF. “Me and [Jordan] Stilp came together once, then touched again, the lightest of touches, but it just lifted the rear up and that was it, it sent me left straight to the scene of the accident.
“It was a combination of the cold tyres and a damp track, and the touch was just enough to unglue the rear. I’m a bit sore, and we’ll have to see with the car, it’s not looking pretty. But there’s still some positives, I’m still fourth in the championship with a DNF, which I can only take as a good part of the weekend.”
