Bushell Tops Pre-Event Donington Clio Cup Testing

1 Mins read

Mike Bushell kicked off his Easter weekend in perfect style by topping the timesheets during official pre-event testing for the second meeting of the 2014 Renault UK Clio Cup season at Donington Park.

Team Pyro’s Bushell, who currently lies second in the championship standings after the opening weekend at Brands Hatch, benefitted from a series of set-up changes for the afternoon session to set a best time of 1m 17.300 seconds.

“Today has gone really well,” said Bushell. “We spent the first session just getting used to the track, settling in, and then we made some adjustments for the second session which did exactly what we wanted. We have our plan of what we want to achieve from the first few races, [Alex] Morgan has a good lead so I just need to get as many points as I can from the weekend – the pace is there.”

The quickest driver in the morning session, and second overall for the day, was Lee Pattison. The JHR Developments driver was 0.158 seconds off Bushell’s best, and 0.152 seconds ahead of Ash Hand, who took an impressive third as the quickest of the SV Racing/KX Akademy quartet.

In an incredibly tight session, the gap between Hand in third and James Colburn in eighth was just 0.074 seconds. Colburn’s Westbourne Motorsport team-mate Devon Modell was fourth fastest, with SV team-mates Ant Whorton-Eales and Josh Cook completing the top six.

Jordan Stilp, third fastest in session one, finished the day seventh fastest, while behind Colburn, Paul Rivett and Rob Smith rounded out the top ten. A frustrating eleventh meanwhile was Alex Morgan, the championship leader struggling with car issues throughout the day.

With a day off tomorrow, Good Friday, the Renault UK Clio Cup competitors will return to the track on Saturday, 19th April, with qualifying for rounds three and four of the campaign taking place at 14.05.

On Easter Sunday, 20th April, race one will get underway at 10.05 with race two, which will be screened live on ITV4, following at around 15.45.
