Italian Kevin Giovesi finally won his first Auto GP World Series race in race 2 of the Paul Ricard event. The Eurotech Engineering driver won in challenging conditions that began wet but dried as the race progressed.
He did well to hold onto the win however, as yesterday’s winner Tamas Pal Kiss came through strongly, with the Hungarian driver finishing under a second behind the Italian in his Zele Racing entry. Third place went to championship leader Kimiya Sato in the Euronova Racing machine, though he did manage to damage his front wing against Pal Kiss’s machine on the opening lap.
Sato extended his championship lead to 13 points over Markus Pommer, after the German Super Nova International driver finished fourth, just under two seconds behind the Japanese driver. Pommer’s Italian team-mate Michela Cerruti, who had lead the opening lap before being passed by Giovesi, ultimately slipped to fifth at the end of the race.
Sam Dejonghe finished sixth after retiring early in yesterdays first race for Virtuosi UK, ahead of team-mate Andrea Roda. Pole-sitter Yoshitaka Kuroda (Zele Racing) was eighth at the end, while Michele La Rosa (MLR71 by Euronova) and Giuseppe Cipriani (Ibiza Racing) were ninth and tenth respectively.
The unfortunate Loris Spinelli, who had been due to start from third place on the grid, failed to start due to a gearbox issue, while Niccolo Schiro once again failed to start with more electronic issues in the second Ibiza Racing car. He did not complete a racing lap all weekend.
