Japanese driver Kimiya Sato has announced that he will return to the Auto GP World Series for a partial campaign with the Euronova Racing team. He returns having finished second in the championship with the team last year. Sato is already racing full time in the GP2 series with Campos Racing in 2014.
Sato’s 2013 campaign saw him win five races but he lost out in the championship to Italian Vittorio Ghirelli in the season finale, ultimately missing out on top spot by nine points despite winning the race in Brno.
Effectively Sato will be team-mate to Italian Michele La Rosa, whose entry will be run under the name of MLR71 by Euronova Racing.
For now, Sato has only announced that he will be racing in this weekends Moroccan round of the Auto GP series with Vincenzo Sospiri’s team, but more races could be added later for races that do not clash with his GP2 commitments. The Japanese driver claimed two podium finishes in 2013 at the Marrakech track finishing third in both races that were won by Sergio Campana and Luciano Bacheta.
