Solid Junior Debuts For Hillspeed Rookies

1 Mins read

Former Ginetta Junior champions Hillspeed enjoyed a positive opening weekend of the 2014 season with its two rookie racers Pedro Cardoso and Harry Mailer.

Cardoso was the fastest of the Hillspeed duo over the course of the weekend at Brands Hatch, qualifying on the fifth row of the grid for the first race. A couple of errant moments in that race left the 14 year old nineteenth in the classifications, but he bounced back with a great drive to eighth place in race two.

Mailer meanwhile was 0.6 seconds shy of his team-mate in qualifying. The Brit battled hard in the midfield in race one, finishing seventeenth, before improving to take fourteenth in race two.

Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw was happy with their performances, saying: “Harry did everything we asked, he kept out of trouble and came back without a mark on his car. Two finishes, and the experience that went with them, are just what he needed.

Pedro’s been more fortunate in that he’s had more mileage in the car, and his pace has been very encouraging, he can get in the car and switch it on straight away. Ultimately, I’ve been very pleased with both drivers and we’re now looking forward to Donington and making more progress there.”
