Markus Pommer on Pole for Race 1 in Monza

German Markus Pommer took his second consecutive Auto GP World Series pole position by setting the fastest time at Monza. The Super Nova International driver held off the challenge of series debutant Christof von Grunigen to take top spot.

Pommer and Zele Racing’s von Grunigen put on a good show up front, and were the only two drivers to set lap times underneath 1:37s. Kevin Giovesi was the leading Italian in third for Eurotech Engineering, with Michela Cerruti fourth for Super Nova. Hungarian driver Tamas Pal Kiss was fifth for Zele Racing.

Andrea Roda could not quite convert his practice pace into pole position, with the Italian qualifying sixth in the sole Virtuosi UK entry. The two Euronova Racing entries continued to be inseparable, with debutant Shinya Michimi out-qualifying his more experienced fellow Japanese driver Yoshitaka Kuroda by almost half a second.

Michele La Rosa in the MLR71 by Euronova machine was ninth, ahead of fellow gentleman driver Giuseppe Cipriani for Ibiza Racing Team, while in the first part of qualifying, Francesco Dracone (11^th Super Nova), Loris Spinelli (12^th Eurotech) and Samin Gomez (13^th for Zele) were eliminated.
