Defending champion Taddy Blazusiak took a hard-fought Gold medal in the Mens Enduro X final ahead of Cody Webb and Alfredo Gomez.
Mike Brown got the holeshot but Blazusiak was too strong for Brown who took the lead before the end of the first lap. As the leaders headed in to the rock section Brown was forced to head out of the track as the traffic got a little too busy, this unleashed Blazusiak to lead the way.
Colten Haaker rode a spirited race as he hunted down Blazusiak who fell in the second half of the race, giving the opposition a chance to catch up. Haaker’s charge would be futile after a tangle in the rock pile ended hopes of a win and would come home in fourth.
Webb took the Silver medal spot with Gomez in Bronze. Former medal-winner Brown’s day was over when he suffered problems in the rock pile a second time and decided to call it a day.
“I had to give it everything I had,” Blazusiak said. “It was such a close race and a gold medal again: That’s the fourth one I’m going to hang on the wall, so what can I say … I’m super happy.”
