Mason Battles to Snetterton Pole

1 Mins read

Aaron Mason has taken pole position in qualifying for the Miltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup at Snetterton. The AWM Warranty Direct Scirocco battled with the #13 Golf GTI of Joe Fulbrook for the top spot over nine laps in the twenty minute session this afternoon.

Mason struck first, setting his 2:07.322 almost exactly halfway through the session. A lap later Fulbrook hit his stride and put in a lap just 0.052 off the pace to lock out the front row of the grid for the team. KPM Racing took the final place in the top three thanks to the Scirocco of Lucas Orrock who was over six tenths off the front row of the grid.

Stefan di Resta took fourth place for JWB Motorsport ahead of the second AWM Scirocco of Josh Caygill. Stewart Lines put his Momentum Motorsport Golf GTI into sixth ahead of the first of the Team HARD Golfs in the hands of Howard Fuller. Jack Walker-Tully for Cook & Mason and the PH Motorsport Scirocco of Phillip House bettered James Walker’s Miltek Sport Golf GTI who rounded out the top ten.

Walker would have finished further up the order if not for violating the track limits. His fastest time was disallowed.

The championship leader, James Greenway had a torrid session, struggling with electronic issues throughout and putting in only six laps over the twenty minutes. He will start in a remarkable 27th position, out of 28 runners for the first race this afternoon.

Tom Barley is another name regularly in the points which failed to impress, placing sixteenth in his KPM Racing run Golf GTI. His championship rival Sam Morgan was slightly luckier, the Slidesports racer will start in fifteenth place when the action gets underway at 17:30 this evening.
