Michela Cerruti became the first female driver to win an Auto GP World Series race by taking victory in front of her home fans in race two at Imola. The Super Nova International driver held of the challenge of Eurotech Engineering driver Kevin Giovesi to take a popular win.
Cerruti started the reverse-grid race from fourth on the grid, but was up to the lead by the end of lap three after disposing team-mate Francesco Dracone for second just as race leader Giuseppe Cipriani spun his Ibiza Racing Team machine out of the race. She held off the challenge of Giovesi, including through the compulsory pit stop to win by just over half a second.
Series returnee Pal Varhaug finished third for Virtuosi UK, while championship rivals Kimiya Sato and Markus Pommer finished fourth and fifth, the Euronova Racing doing everything he needed to do to keep the Super Nova International driver behind him. Sato increased his championship lead with the result.
2013 Auto GP Champion Vittorio Ghirelli finished sixth on his first weekend for Eurotech Engineering, with Christof von Grunigen seventh in the leading Zele Racing entry; his team-mate Tamas Pal Kiss finished a disappointing weekend for the Hungarian with his second ninth place finish in two days.
In between the Zele boys was another disappointed driver in the form of Virtuosi UK’s Andrea Roda, who suffered a lack of pace due to a cracked exhaust. The final point went to Dracone.
