Rob Smith has set his sights on two strong points finishes this weekend during Rounds Seven and Eight of the Renault UK Clio Cup at Oulton Park.
The fourth meeting of the season will take place around Oulton’s full International Circuit layout, a configuration that the 21 year old previously raced around in Formula Ford in 2011.
After a tough couple of meetings at Donington Park and Thruxton, where he hasn’t accrued the results he desired, Smith is determined to return to the podium this weekend for the first time since the opening meeting of the year.
“Oulton has always been one of my favourite tracks, if not the favourite to be honest,” said Smith. “I always enjoy racing there, it’s one of the best challenges in the country, and it’s even better being back on the International Circuit.
“After the last round at Thruxton I wasn’t too happy, but since then we’ve had a look at things and tried to work out what it is we’ve been missing since Brands. I’ve made changes to my approach and it seems to be working – going into Oulton I’m feeling the most upbeat, confident and well-prepared I’ve ever felt before a race meeting.”
The Team Pyro driver currently lies ninth in the standings, fourteen points adrift of the top six, as well as fourth in the Graduate Cup class.
