Brazilian Felipe Nasr took his third GP2 Series victory of the season after dominating the Sprint Race at Silverstone. The Carlin driver held off the advances of Racing Engineering’s Stefano Coletti for the win, with Trident Racing’s Johnny Cecotto Jr claiming the third spot on the podium.
Nasr made a good getaway to get ahead of pole sitter Stephane Richelmi, who also slipped down behind Coletti, Cecotto and Julian Leal into the first corner. The Brazilian was able to control the gap to the Monegasque driver for the victory.
Jolyon Palmer was able to get ahead of his DAMS team-mate Richelmi and Carlin driver Leal to take fourth place, finishing on the tail of Cecotto. Leal was fifth, with Richelmi holding onto sixth, with the second Monegasque driver in the field resisting the challenge of Feature race winner Mitch Evans of Russian Time to the flag. The Kiwi made a slow start but once his tyres were up to temperature was able to challenge Richelmi.
Danish driver Marco Sorensen of MP Motorsport took the final point, with the series debutant taking advantage of a mistake at Village Corner by ART Grand Prix driver Stoffel Vandoorne to take eighth.
Raffaele Marciello was the most high profile retirement from the race, having been turned around at the first corner breaking his suspension while trying to climb through the field. Rio Haryanto of EQ8 Caterham Racing and Sergio Canamasas also retired in the pit lane with issues. Haryanto’s team-mate Alexander Rossi stalled on the grid but lost a lap to finish a lowly twenty-first.
