After an action-packed pair of races around the unique Knockhill circuit this past weekend, here are the latest championship standings in the 2014 Renault UK Clio Cup ahead of the final two meetings of the season.
With four races to go, thoughts start turning to dropped scores and their implications on the points standings, with the overall standings, as well as the Masters Cup and Graduate Cup classes, seeing the drivers drop their two worst scores.
In the overall title battle, a tough outing for Josh Cook at Knockhill saw his points lead slashed to sixteen points by Mike Bushell, with the gap between them shortening further to twelve on dropped scores, despite both having had a DNF.
Outside title bets James Colburn, Jordan Stilp and Ant Whorton-Eales remarkably haven’t posted a retirement between themselves, meaning they all fall over forty points behind Cook when the dropped scores are considered.
In the Graduate Cup, a three points penalty for Cook from Knockhill gives the advantage to Colburn by a single point, though it’s all change on dropped scores with Colburn’s consistency meaning he has to surrender 38 to Cook’s 20, meaning the SV Racing ace has the advantage.
In the Masters Cup, while Lee Pattison sees a 67 point advantage over Paul Rivett fall to just eleven with drops included, the Team Pyro racer needs to just card an eighth class win of the year and a second place in the final four races, and receive no penalty points, to secure the honours.
Podium finishes in each race at Knockhill meanwhile mean that SV Racing with KX could well seal the Teams Trophy honours in the opening race at Rockingham, all they need to do is outscore Team Pyro by four points.
