Ollie Chadwick feels his fourth win of the season in the opening race of the weekend at Brands Hatch has given him fresh impetus in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge championship battle.
Chadwick battled through from fifth at the end of the opening lap to take the victory in a race which saw chief title rivals George Gamble and Dennis Strandberg handed ten second penalties for jump starts.
The victory, his third in the row around Brands Hatch GP after a double victory in the 2013 Ginetta Juniors finale, gives the Xentek Motorsport racer a boost in the championship battle after a mixed Spa outing last time out.
“This win really helps with the championship, I’ve clawed some points back today and it really helps us,” Chadwick told TCF.
“It’s just a great way to kick off the weekend, it really helps with the confidence as we’ve had some bad luck at points this year, and now we need to keep pushing and see where we are at the end of the weekend.”
Chadwick now lies just two points behind Strandberg in the standings, with Gamble a further forty points ahead, and the 18 year old is drawing inspiration from the title success of Oliver Basey-Fisher last season.
“Last year [Oliver] Basey-Fisher was a similar distance behind in the title battle at this stage and although Will [Burns] finished all the races, Ollie got his head down, won races and turned it around, so I know it’s possible,” he added.
