Italian Kevin Ceccon will return to the GP3 Series for the first time since 2012 after joining the Jenzer Motorsport team for the remainder of the 2014 season. He completes the line-up alongside Norwegian driver Pal Varhaug and Swiss youngster Matheo Tuscher.
Chinese driver Adderly Fong had been a member of the team up until the German round of the series at Hockenheim, while Austrian Christopher Hoher stepped in for the last round at the Hungaroring in Hungary.
Ceccon raced for Ocean Racing Technology in 2012, and finished on the podium in Monaco. In 2013, he joined Trident Racing for the first six weekends of the GP2 Series season, and again claimed his best result of the season at Monaco, but lost his drive after the weekend at the Nurburgring in Germany.
The 20-year-old is delighted to be returning to the cockpit, and praises his PR Stefano Zeuch for keeping him focussed that he would get back into motorsport. He is hoping for a strong end to the season, with races at Spa, Monza, Sochi and Abu Dhabi to come.
“I am very happy that Stefano Zuech has built this great opportunity for me this year,” said Ceccon. “It has been a difficult year but Stefano told me every time don‘t give up and to continue to be focussed and ready even if I was spending my time in the gym.
“I will be definitely focused to give the best of myself and I am very pleased to join the Jenzer Motorsport team. Once again thank you to all of the people that help me to make it happen.”
Team Boss Andreas Jenzer was happy to welcome the Italian driver into the team for the remainder of the season, and insists the team are looking forward to working with the former Auto GP champion.
“Kevin has previously raced in this Series and has plenty of other racing experience,” said Jenzer. “We are looking forward to working with him.”
