Kevin Ceccon was fastest in GP3 Series free practice in front of his home fans at Monza as Jenzer Motorsport had its most impressive session of the season so far.
The session began on a wet track but dried sufficiently to allow drivers to set lap times on slick tyres before the end of the session.
Ceccon’s time of 1:38.656s was quick enough to beat Marussia Manor Racing’s Patrick Kujala into second place by 0.044s, while Matheo Tuscher was third in the second Jenzer Motorsport machine, a further 0.016s behind.
Romanian Robert Visoiu was fourth fastest for Arden International ahead of Emil Bernstorff of Carlin, while Dean Stoneman was sixth for Marussia Manor Racing.
Patric Niederhauser was seventh for Arden International and will want to have a good weekend to help him forget about his nightmare Spa-Francorchamps efforts where he crashed out of both races.
The third and final Jenzer Motorsport machine of Pal Varhaug completed the top eight, while Riccardo Agostini was ninth for Hilmer Motorsport.
0.072s separated championship rivals Richie Stanaway of Status Grand Prix and Alex Lynn of Carlin, with the New Zealander tenth and the Briton twelfth behind his team-mate Luis Sa Silva.
