Since my last blog I haven’t been able to get out in a race seat again, however I’m looking forward to finishing off the SG Petch Sprint Championship to get some more karting race miles under my belt for this year.
One of the main events I’ve been part of since my last blog was the Want2Race competition. It’s my second year being a part of Ginetta backed contest which gives one novice racing driver the opportunity to race in the Protyre Ginetta GT5 Challenge at Donington Park.
For the second year running my job was to take the newly named “Maxter Class” explaining to all the entrants how to go about race weekend preparation, race build up, starts, overtaking and crashes, all very handy for the first time racer.
In the afternoon I got my chance to have a blast and took to the track in a Ginetta G50 GT4 car with some very nervous looking people in the passenger seat. All went well and everyone got out looking pretty happy.
Here’s Susanne Jones’ ride:
The event was also sponsored by iON Camera’s who I’ve been working with over the summer, their version of events can be found here.
I was also asked to drive the safety car for the BRSCC meeting at Oulton Park. It was a completely different experience and it’s not as easy as it looks!
In the end we were only used once in the Formula Jedi race so I ended up getting a couple of good laps in. Its three years since I last went round Oulton Park so it was great to refresh the mind and have another go.
Apart from that my other racing activities have been with HHC Motorsport continuing my work with them in PR and Social Media. They’re a great team to work for and have continued to have some outstanding results.
It’s important for young drivers like myself to be at race meetings all the time so that we don’t get forgotten about when we’re not in the seat. I’m learning a lot about the PR and Social Media side of the sport – which is what I’m studying at University.
I’m now hard at work planning next season, we’re starting early so we get our race seat in place with plenty of time before the start of next season. I want to be back full time and am looking forward to the challenge.
See you all at Silverstone in a couple of weeks,
