Skinner Seeks Backing For 2015 VW Cup Entry

1 Mins read

Tom Skinner has set his sights on an entry into the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup in 2015, with his chances of reaching the grid boosted by a recent sponsorship deal with Ultimo GT.

The 18 year old is currently in discussions with a couple of front-running VW Cup teams over a drive in the British GT support category as he aims to make his first move onto the tin-top racing ladder.

Skinner had hoped to move onto the British GT package this season after testing a Ginetta G20 with Reflex Racing at the marque’s media day at the start of the year, however he was unable to turn that into a regular drive this campaign with his sponsors focusing on next season instead.

Instead, Skinner’s sole race action therefore has come in historic racing alongside his father in a Marcos 1800 in the CSCC Classic K Race Series, something he hopes to continue into 2015 alongside his other commitments.

While the backing from UK high performance lubricants brand Ultimo GT has moved him a huge step closer to the grid for next season, the Twickenham-based racer admits he needs more backing to guarantee his spot on the grid next season.

“The VW Cup is an exciting championship,” Skinner told TCF. “It provides close racing and is a perfect stepping stone into tin top racing, plus with it being part of the British GT package it has a huge following on Motors TV and social media that can boost our profile.

“It’s great to have a company such as Ultimo GT onboard as we both aim to help each other out and to boost both our profiles. At the moment we’re about 60% there, and are looking for a few more companies to come on board and help ensure we reach the grid next season.”
