Visoiu to Join Pons Racing for Post-Jerez Test

1 Mins read

Romanian teenager Robert Visoiu will test for Pons Racing in the post-season Formula Renault 3.5 Series test at Jerez as he looks to move up the single-seater ladder.

Visoiu, who will turn eighteen on October 2nd, has been racing for the past three seasons in the GP3 Series, and took two wins during 2013 whilst driving for MW Arden. He remained in the Arden team for 2014, and has a best finish of third at the Hungaroring in Hungary.

It will be the second time he tests for Pons, having done so ahead of the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season but decided to purely concentrate on his GP3 campaign.

“I’m looking forward to get back in the Formula Renault 3.5 car run by Pons Racing,” said Visoiu. “I will do my best to master the car and I’m very excited about this outing”.

Team Manager Emilio de Villota is pleased to see the Romanian testing for his team once more, and has the belief that he can have a good future in motorsport.

“We’re really happy to have Visoiu testing with us once again,” said de Villota. “At his age it’s not common to have that deal of single-seater experience, and that’s undoubtedly a strength he has. I believe he has the potential to be a very good prospect for the future”.

With Colombian Oscar Tunjo already confirmed for the team in 2015, pairing him up with Visoiu might just be a very good thing for Pons Racing. Both Tunjo and Visoiu are young and highly-rated, and it could be the start of something good for the team.
