WDE Motorsport Plan Expanded Clio Entry For 2015

1 Mins read

WDE Motorsport team manager Paul Rivett has told The Checkered Flag that the team are planning to expand to a three or four car outfit in the Renault UK Clio Cup next season.

WDE entered the Clio Cup paddock for the first time this year, with three-time Clio Cup champion Rivett joining them in a combined team manager/driver position.

Initially running as a single-car entry with Rivett, the team moved to a two-car outfit from Oulton Park in June when Charlie Ladell stepped up from WDE’s Fiesta racing squad.

Rivett and Ladell are both expected to return to the grid next season, and discussions are already taking place with drivers to put more fourth-generation Clios on the grid.

“We will have three or four cars on the grid next year, it’s the natural progression for us as a team,” Rivett told TCF.

“We’ve got a driver that’s going to be testing my car at the end of this week with a view to doing the championship next year, so that could put us up to a three car team, and we’ve got interest in running a fourth car as well.”

The team have enjoyed some positive results in their first campaign, with Rivett posting four podium finishes so far, while Ladell has taken a best finish of fourth overall.

Rivett is happy with the progress the team has made this season and feels they can be title contenders next year.

“This year was all about bringing the team forwards and I think we’ve done that very well, we were one of the top teams in the Clio Cup from the word go and that’s a great testament to the whole team,” he added.

“Next season we’re going to be even stronger, even better, and we will be racing for the championship next year.”
