Morgan Pleased With “Important” Brands Podium

1 Mins read

Alex Morgan is pleased and relieved to have returned to the Renault UK Clio Cup podium at Brands Hatch today (11th October) after a tough season for the reigning vice-champion.

Morgan returned to the scene of his double victory on the opening weekend of the season having only picked up one more podium finish in the fourteen races since – that podium having come in Round Four at Donington Park nearly six months ago.

In the penultimate race of the season at Brands, the 27 year old emerged from a fantastic late scrap with his KX team-mates Ash Hand and Ant Whorton-Eales, and 2014 champion-elect Mike Bushell, with third place.

That came despite the KX Akademy member carrying damage throughout the race from a typically action-packed opening lap, and Morgan was delighted to have got his Clio over the line in the top three.

“It’s a really important podium for me, it proves that we have got the pace after all, as it’s certainly been a tougher year than we expected,” Morgan told TCF.

“I’ve got to say that was probably the most enjoyable race I’ve had this season – though I wouldn’t be saying that if I’d finished fourth.

“I got a heavy hit on the first lap which bent the steering, so I drove the whole race with a good 45 degrees of lock on, but despite that the pace was good.

“I fought back from fifth after the safety car and pulled a really good move into Surtees to get Ash [Hand] and Mike [Bushell] for third.”
