Tunjo remains with Pons Racing for 2015 campaign

1 Mins read

Oscar Tunjo will remain with the Pons Racing team for the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season after impressing Team Manager Emilio de Villota during the 2014 season.

The young Colombian only joined the team at the Spa-Francorchamps round at the beginning of June, and despite having no previous experience driving the car was quickly on the pace, and was qualifying on the front row of the grid within a handful of races.

His best result of the season was in the finale at Jerez when he finished seventh, and scored eleven points during the twelve races he competed in.

Team Manager de Villota was delighted to be able to retain the services of Tunjo, who ran the two-day post-Jerez test for the team last week. De Villota admitted he was impressed with the speed in which Tunjo was able to adapt to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series car, and is looking forward to seeing him run a full campaign in 2015.

“When I finally had the chance to reach an agreement with Tunjo for 2014, I was excited because I had witnessed his progress during the 2013 Eurocup Formula Renault season and I considered him one of the quickest emerging prospects in business,” said de Villota. “We started working together at Spa-Francorchamps, one of the most difficult circuits of the world, but Oscar immediately impressed us for both his performance and for how he merged with the team, from the engineers to the mechanics.

“Race after race, he constantly improved his chemistry with the Dallara-Zytek 3.5 car, which is not an easy one. That particular aspect convinced us to continue our relationship for 2015. Together with Oscar, we hope to get some great satisfactions next year”.
