Collingbourne Set For Clio Cup Graduation

1 Mins read

A new face is set to take to the Renault UK Clio Cup grid in 2015, with Rory Collingbourne having acquired a fourth-generation Clio racer.

The 17 year old Welshman has completed a deal to purchase the Clio raced this season by Paul Knapp, and is now working on secure the remainder of the budget required to complete a full season in the BTCC support series.

Collingbourne is set to move up to the Clio Cup from Ford Fiesta racing, a strong run to third in the Junior Championship in 2013 being followed by top six finishes in the Senior class this year with JamSport – the team that ran Knapp in the Clios this year.

“I’ve been looking at Clios all year,” said Collingbourne. “Paul [Knapp] gave me a good price on the car, a great deal, so we took the opportunity and now we’re working hard to get the extra sponsorship we need.

“I’m looking at the Renault UK Clio Cup as a two year plan, I want to be competitive in the Graduate Cup in my first season and then try and push for the main championship in 2016. Touring cars is the dream for the long term, this is the next step to achieving that.”

Collingbourne is planning to test his new Clio for the first time at Donington Park later this month.
