JamSport have confirmed their return to the Renault UK Clio Cup grid in 2015, with series newcomer George Jackson their first driver signing for next season.
Jackson has competed with the team in the Fiesta ST Championship this year, his first season in any form of racing, the 20 year old impressively finishing up tenth in the standings.
Despite his inexperience, Jackson feels he is ready to step up to the BTCC support series and has purchased the fourth-generation Clio used by Paul Knapp this year.
“It’s fantastic to be racing in Clios next year,” said Jackson. “Paul [Knapp] gave me the inspiration really. He said Clio Cup is a different league to Fiestas, so that has inspired me to push further and make the move.
“It’s great to be staying with JamSport, that continuity is important – if you can find a team you work well with and can build a relationship together, it’s the best thing I think.”
Northampton-based JamSport debuted in the Clio Cup midway through 2014, running a single car for Knapp and then Dan Holland, before running both drivers in the final rounds.
Team principal Sam Cotton is pleased to have retained Jackson’s services for 2015, and hopes to expand the team into a three or four car outfit next season.
“Everyone at the team is delighted George is staying with us for his move into Clios,” commented Cotton. “In his first year in the Fiestas he did a fantastic job, especially with no prior experience at any level.
“We hope to announce our second driver next week and three cars are looking very likely – if we can run four next year I’ll be elated.”
