Silverstone In, Snetterton Out For Clio Cup 2015

1 Mins read

A return to Silverstone is the main change to an eighteen round Renault UK Clio Cup calendar for 2015, the series once again supporting the British Touring Car Championship at each of its nine meetings.

Making way for the visit to the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ is the championship’s annual trip to Snetterton, the first time the championship hasn’t included the Norfolk venue on its calendar since 1992.

The decision to skip Snetterton in early August means the Clio competitors will now have a lengthy eight week summer break in between the meetings at Croft and Knockhill.

The Clio Cup hasn’t tackled the Silverstone National Circuit meanwhile since 2012, a weekend on which 2014 vice-champion Josh Cook secured his first two Clio Cup victories.

“There was a strong desire to retain an 18 round calendar for next season and after looking closely at all of the options, we settled on the decision to miss the Snetterton event in August and make a return to Silverstone instead,” explained Will Fewkes, Renault UK Clio Cup Championship Manager.

“We’re sure the addition of Silverstone will be very popular with the drivers and teams, as will keeping Knockhill on the Clio Cup calendar. Our return there this year proved very successful, with the fans as well as the competitors, so we’re delighted to be racing in Scotland again in 2015. All in all, it’s another fantastic calendar.”

2015 Renault UK Clio Cup Calendar:

Rounds 1 & 2 – 4th/5th April – Brands Hatch Indy

Rounds 3 & 4 – 18th/19th April – Donington Park National

Rounds 5 & 6 – 9th/10th May – Thruxton
