A mid-week race in Las Vegas may bring Olsbergs MSE Ford rallycross team their fourth straight championship title tonight and Joni Wiman will be hoping to take the drivers title with him too.
In the tenth and final race of the season Wiman leads the field by 12 points ahead of nearest challenger Ken Block, all Wiman has to do to take the title is finish in second place.
In his rookie season in the main Supercar class the 21-year-old has impressed many and is currently on a three-race podium streak.
He is still to secure the illusive win despite his two seconds and two thirds throughout the season.
“I’m the rookie this year and I think I’ve shown what I can do,” said Wiman.
“Running in GRC Lites last season gave me a good confidence boost and prepared me well for this championship. I’m looking forward to getting out there and racing on Wednesday.”
Team-mate Patrik Sandell will be hoping to add to his win tally in Las Vegas following his victory in June.
“This has been an incredible season in rallycross,” said Sandell. “Bringing the Kobalt Tools Ford Fiesta ST its first victory in Washington, D.C., was a definite highlight and it would be amazing to return to the podium here in Las Vegas. I am ready.”
