Colton Herta, son of IndyCar race-winner Bryan, will compete in the UK for the first time next season, joining MSA Formula with Carlin.
The Californian will be one of the youngest drivers on the grid in the inaugural year of MSA Formula in 2015, turning fifteen just five days before the opening meeting of the season.
Herta heads to the UK with single-seater racing experience from his homeland, having stepped up from a successful karting career aged 13.
In his first season of car-racing, Herta won the Pacific F1600 Championship with ten race victories, which he followed up with a campaign in USF2000 this year, in which he took a best finish of fifth.
“I’m really excited to be joining Carlin for the MSA Formula season,” said Herta. “There is a ton of interest in the series and the competition will be incredibly tough, but I know Carlin will give me a great car and support to learn and develop my skills. So many great drivers have developed their careers with Carlin, this is exactly where I want to be. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Colton joins world karting champion Lando Norris in the Carlin ranks as part of a three-car entry for the renowned single-seater outfit, with Team Principal Trevor Carlin delighted with his latest signing.
“Colton is a real talent,” said Carlin boss Trevor Carlin. “I think he will be a revelation to many people in Europe that maybe haven’t been aware of his racing before. We’ve seen his pace first hand in one of our test cars and from what we’ve seen Colton could be the next great American racing driver.”
