The Tech 1 Racing outfit have signed Frenchman Aurelien Panis as their first driver for the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season.
Panis, the son of 1996 Monaco Grand Prix winner Olivier Panis, steps up from the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series where he raced with the ART Junior Team in 2014, winning once at Moscow Raceway and finishing ninth in the championship.
Commenting on the move on his official Twitter page, Panis was naturally delighted to be moving up from 2.0 to 3.5 series machinery for next year, stating: “FR3.5 next season with Tech1 Racing! I’m so happy to join this team!”
For most of the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season, Tech 1 Racing raced only one car for Danish driver Marco Sorensen, before he was joined first by Mexican Alfonso Celis Jr for the races at the Nurburgring, and then by Nicholas Latifi for the final three rounds of the year at the Hungaroring, Paul Ricard and Jerez.
In previous years Tech 1 Racing have seen the likes of future Formula 1 stars Jerome d’Ambrosio, Charles Pic, Giedo van der Garde, Daniel Ricciardo, Jean-Eric Vergne and Jules Bianchi race for them in the Formula Renault 3.5 series.
The 2015 season begins at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain at the end of April.
